18th Century Beer and Bread Tasting
Explore history through breads and beers of the 18th Century at the Old Stone House of Brooklyn,
Thursday, October 14th from 6:30 to 8:30PM
Tickets $45, only 80 tickets available
Brooklyn, NY September 7th, 2010.
The Old Stone House presents an evening of breads and beers created using  traditional 18th century recipes.  Taste a variety of delectable early American staples recreated by historic gastronomist Sarah Lohman and brewmasters Erik Olsen and Chris Prout of Brooklyn's premier beer store, Brouwerij Lane.
This evening tasting event will include five courses of bread that represent recipes from the colonial  era including crisp, nutty waffles, savory rusks , citrusy cookies and spicy sweet breads.   Each will be matched with a  beer  brewed by Olsen and Prout, that is seasoned with such flavors as  spruce, ginger, mustard and molasses.
Sarah Lohman, artist, food historian and chef, is the author of the blog, Four Pounds Flour.  www.fourpoundsflour.com.
Erik Olsen and Chris Prout are avid home brewers and the managers of Brouwerij Lane, 78 Greenpoint Ave., Brooklyn, NY,  www.brouwerijlane.com, a retail outlet in Greenpoint, Brooklyn which features more than 200 bottled beers and 19 taps.
The Old Stone House is a modern reconstruction of the Vechte-Cortelyou House, a 1699 Dutch stone farmhouse that was the site of the largest battle of the Revolutionary War—the Battle of Brooklyn on August 27, 1776—and in the late 1800's the home field for the Brooklyn Dodgers.  Located in Washington Park, 4th Avenue and 3rd Street, in Park slope, Brooklyn, the Old Stone House is an active cultural site and presenting organization dedicated to creating a strong sense of community through history, environmental education and the arts.
