Gathering of Good Minds - Native Health Summit
The goal of this summit is to build alliances for healthy Native American communities throughout New York State and create pathways for the wellbeing of our future generations.
Our objectives are to:
- Celebrate and honor our traditional knowledge, wisdom, and strengths.
- Explore and share perspectives on the current state of health and wellbeing of our people.
- Provide opportunities for sharing current practices that positively impact our communities.
- Understand how communities are dealing with the intergenerational issues related to historical trauma and related factors.
- Re-establish a "Culture of Health" in our communities.
- Develop collaborative strategies for creating an action plan to engage your community, establishing and strengthening an Alliance for health across the communities, and planning a 2016 conference for our people.
It is within our traditional Native belief systems that everything is interconnected. From this, we know that embracing the connections between body, mind, spirit, and land is of fundamental importance to our understanding of health and wellness. This four day summit will explore these dimensions for our Native people as we create a pathway for our future generations.
The gathering provides the time and space for Native people from across the territories - on-Nation and in urban areas - who are working with Good Minds for the betterment of our people. The gathering offers an opportunity to increase knowledge and awareness, share information and practices, so that communities can incorporate these ideas to better define issues and develop approaches to address them.
