The Ghost Game: Devil In the Deep Blue Sea

All Hallows Eve approaches, and The Anunnaki Project is dredging up ghastly tales from the deep in preparation for their fourth-annual Ghost Game production on October 22, 23, 24, 29, 30 and 31 at Youngstown Cultural Arts Center in West Seattle. From a mermaid in love to a siren in the sails, the ocean lures the damned with gifts that cannot be resisted.
The fearless performers of The Cabiri troupe will dive into the depths of the darkest myths as they encounter The Devil In the Deep Blue Sea, a collection of nine ancient tales from across the continents and beneath murky waters. In this evening-length, dessert theater production, aerialists dance with maddened Rusalka and acrobats dive into the arms of the vampiric Kappa. A chosen few guests will find themselves entangled in the evening's festivities, lured into the mire and transformed into storytellers and unsuspecting participants in the epic tales unfolding before them.
This year's Ghost Game will also feature Cameron Esposito as Mistress of Ceremonies. Laying down jokes both surreal and highly personal, Cameron has become a darling of Chicago's alt comedy scene. Her wickedly dark sense of humor rounds out this macabre evening of spectacle and stories.
Founder and Artistic Director John Murphy is passionate about his organization's use of non-traditional theatrical arts to depict tales from ancient mythology, a craft they have honed in the Pacific Northwest since 1998. "We refer to our genre as 'performative mythology.' We take obscure academic works and bring them to life in an incredibly accessible way on stage. The acrobats, aerialists, and dancers of The Cabiri are incredibly adept at depicting these larger-than-life, archetypal tales with passion and inspiration."
Murphy and his cadre of a dozen performing artists eagerly dove into this year's watery theme. "While the ocean has surrounded the continents of man since the dawn of time, it also surrounds our inner mind, harboring our deepest thoughts, fears and shadows," states Murphy. "The Cabiri are emerging from our most energized season ever and are diving into the depths of the psyche with nine tales from the daemonic depths."
Price of admission to the evening performances includes dessert from local bakeries including Sugar Rush Baking Company. Guests may purchase an entire table for five ($150), an individual ticket at a shared table ($35), or a reserved-seating champagne VIP table for five ($300).
On Saturday, October 30th, a huge Halloween costume party will follow an early 6:30 p.m. show. The party will feature dancing, DJ's, aerialists, and will go until 4:00 a.m., and is a benefit for Delridge Neighborhood Development Association and The Anunnaki Project. Tickets for the Ghost Game performance and the party are available for $40.00-$70.00 each. Halloween party is open to guests 21 and older.
Matinee tickets are available for $6.00 (Students & Senior Citizens) and $10.00 (General Admission) and do not include dessert.
Beverages will be available for purchase at all evening shows, including spirits for those of legal age. Due to mature subject matter, guests under 16 years of age will not be admitted.
The Anunnaki Project is an independent, non-profit arts and educational organization based in Seattle, Washington. The organization celebrated its 10 year anniversary in 2009 and specializes in "performative mythology," depiction of myths and stories from cultures that have passed into antiquity via physical theater, dance, and circus arts. The organization receives support for its work from a variety of public and private entities including Seattle Foundation, King County 4Culture and Lucky7 Foundation.
