Virtuoso Classical Guitar, Bach to the 21st Century with Aaron Larget-Caplan
"A Riveting Artist" as described by the Washington Post, classical guitarist Aaron Larget-Caplan returns to Astoria on an Oregon and Washington solo tour. The concert takes place on Saturday February 7 at 7pm at Grace Episcopal Church, 1545 Franklin Avenue in Astoria. Aaron program 'Virtuoso Guitar, Bach to the 21st Century' explores the great range of guitar music, including Aaron's arrangements of classical compositions by Johann Sebastian Bach, Domenico Scarlatti and Franz Schubert, original works by Latin American, Spanish and Japanese composer, and new lullabies written for Aaron's New Lullaby Project including a world premiere by Bay-Area composer Garrett Shatzer.
Of his new solo program 'Virtuoso Guitar, Bach to the 21st Century', Aaron says, "the seeds of the program come from a love affair I have had with some of these compositions since I was a student at the New England Conservatory. The technical challenges of the music Bach and Scarlatti are of course exciting, but I have always been enamored with the emotional challenge in the music, and in finding one's own voice with such masterpieces. The contemporary composition to balance the emotional strength of Bach and Scarlatti comes from the Legend of Hagoromo by Keigo Fujii, which I first heard in Spain in 1998. From that moment my heart was taken by this most expressive and phenomenal masterpiece."
An avid solo and chamber music performer, Aaron's performances combine the traditional expressivity with contemporary passion. A gifted speaker and performer, Aaron has a unique ability to connect with audiences allowing both the traditional and new repertoire to come to life.
Aaron Larget-Caplan's "astounding technical proficiency and artistic delicacy" (Boston Musical Intelligencer) has been captivating audiences for over a dozen years. Born in Oklahoma and raised in Colorado, Aaron gave his debut at age 16, and has since premiered over 50 compositions, most of which are dedicated to him, and performed through the United States, Italy and Russia. His New Lullaby Project has garnered international attention and accolades. He graduated from the New England Conservatory having studied with David Leisner and Eliot Fisk. Following the Conservatory Aaron studied with Russian master pedagogue Dmitry Goryachev and flamenco with Juanito Pascual. Aaron is on faculty at the University of Massachusetts Boston and formerly at the Boston Conservatory. Besides guitar, Aaron enjoys organic food and espresso, and searching out hot springs.
