Support Resistance!
For 28 years the Carnegie Newsletter in Vancouver's Downtown East Side has afflicted the comfortable and comforted the afflicted, providing news, community views, local poetry and art to one of Vancouver's greatest communities. To help it continue in operation, the newsletter is now calling on the public to help it cover its costs, hoping to raise a total of $15,000.
This concert, starting at 7:30 at St James' Anglican Church at 303 E Cordova, will feature the following artists:
Geoff Berner, the sharp, hilarious, accordion-playing troubadour who skewers hypocrisy, wealth and arrogance;
Harmony of Nations, Carnegie's own first nations drum group;
Twin Bandit, a duo of fantastic young women who started in the St James academy and have just returned from recording in Nashville!
Vancouver City Opera with clarinettist Johanna Hauser, a superb local company of professional musicians;
The Creaking Planks, the wickedly entertaining and funny gang of musical pirates;
The Solidarity Notes Labour Choir, Vancouver's first labour choir (singing since 2000), which has been on the front line of many local struggles, providing beautiful and inspiring activist music in support of human rights and social change.
There will also be a silent auction and refreshments...doors open at 7 PM
