Beth Fitchet Wood and Doug Haywood Concert Night
Beth Fitchet Wood is a folksinger from Phoenix, with Long Island, New York roots. Beth sang and played guitar in Honk, a California rock 'n roll band that ranged from Mahalia Jackson to Cream to Freddy Hubbard, who landed several major record deals in the early 70's and toured with Chicago, Loggins and Messina, and The Beach Boys.
After decades of playing with brilliant songwriters, she finally shook it off and began writing herself, and all her influences melded with her own voice into an indescribable yet familiar expression. Her songs are very personal and intimate, and though the folk idiom is strong, her harmonic structures might make a purist run for the door. Or weep.
She has made 5 CD's on her own, has appeared as band member on 5 others, and has sung on countless other projects of every description, in most languages. "Shared stages" with a phonebook of the most influential musicians, including Jackson Browne, Kenny Loggins, Michael McDonald, Christopher Cross, Bonnie Raitt, and many more.
She won first place songwriter at the Tucson Folk Music Festival in 2009, and in her home town, Laguna Beach, has hosted (for 9 years!) one of the best Songwriter's Showcases anywhere. Among many other concerts and festivals, she played a Living Traditions concert in Anaheim in 2009, and also in 2012 and 2014. She also taught at Penny Nichols Summersongs Camp in 2010 and appeared on the mainstages at the Tucson Folk Festival in 2010. 2011 and 2012. She was honored with a nomination for Best Artist in Laguna Beach by the L.B. Chamber of Commerce in 2012, and also was chosen as a "Hero" for the hero project in 2014. "...pure, plain beautiful singing." - Mike Boehm, L.A. Times www.bethfitchetwood.com
For twenty years Doug recorded and toured with Jackson Browne. They reunited recently in the studio where Doug sang harmonies on the new album, "Standing In The Breach", released on Oct 7th on Inside Recordings. Doug has had a top 10 hit with If It Ain't Love By Now, recorded by Jim Ed Brown and Helen Cornelius. He is an fine songwriter, and other songs of Haywood's have been recorded by Bobbie Gentry, The Dillards, David Lindley, Mason Williams, Jennifer Warnes, Beth Fitchet-Wood, Jerry Reed, Juice Newton, Sue Harris, and many others. As a solo recording artist he has three releases: "Doug Haywood: Six Songs", "In These Rooms", and "Nevada." Doug is currently working on his fourth solo release.
In addition to his long musical relationship with Jackson Browne, Doug Haywood has sung on recordings and/or on stage with Bonnie Raitt, Joe Walsh, Graham Nash, and many others. He has also played bass on recordings and/or on stage with Linda Ronstadt, Warren Zevon, Ricardo Pena, Rick Cunha, Hal Blaine, Byron Berline and many others.
Doug now makes his home in Arizona, for which we are very grateful! He performs material he has written, and material written by others that he loves to perform. Doug also produces recordings, and plays and sings on recordings in his studio and in other studios.
