Spatial Audio is where art, technology, and human experience come alive. This introductory workshop explores the magic of sound in three-dimensional space how it moves through the world around us, and how it can be transformed into new ways of experiencing space. We'll discover how our brains perceive sound and space, and how to begin experimenting with spatial audio formats to create immersive soundscapes or technological artifacts.
Get to know the basic principles behind spatial audio formats (like binaural, ambisonic, and object-oriented formats like Atmos) and how they are used in art, creative technologies, VR/AR, assistive technology, and sound art. This crash course gives you both the language and the hands-on starting points to begin working with spatial sound. Come ready to listen differently, and to discover how sound itself can become a medium for art.
Topics Covered: What is spatial audio? How do we perceive sound in space? How can spatial audio be used creatively? What are some spatial audio design tools for getting started?
