PROGRAM NOTE:

Rhythm Meditation #1 is a sixty-minute guided meditation - a duet between the performer and readings of several contemplative texts. States of musical expression favor:
moment-form improvisation, with randomness;
kaleidoscopic and ritualistic soundscapes;
an invitation to reflect upon the nature of thoughts arising and falling;
a mindful pursuit of equanimity and reductive transparency,
of a seeming stillness, in contrast to unrelenting noise;
illusion and intuition, to enlighten the journey.

PERFORMER BIOGRAPHY:

Nick Terry is a percussionist specializing in contemporary classical chamber music. Throughout the previous 20 years in Los Angeles, his multi-faceted creative output has received critical acclaim from the Recording Academy (winner in 57th Grammy Awards, official nominee in 55th Grammy Awards), Percussive Arts Society (invited performer 2013, 2016, 2017, 2018 International Conventions), iTunes (2014 Best of Classical Music), and National Public Radio (2017s Top 10 Classical Albums). Each season, he performs with Brightwork Newmusic, Los Angeles Percussion Quartet, and PARTCH, and is regularly featured with the Los Angeles Philharmonics New Music Group. His work has been called mesmerizing, atmospheric, and supremely melodic by the New York Times, and representing the next generation in the evolution of modern percussion by conductor Pierre Boulez.
