The Tyrant Turtle King & The Comedic Tragedy of Mr. Moneybags
Welcome to Triple Promise Academy for the Performing Arts ("3xP"), where we are dedicated to excellence in acting, singing, and dancing in class, in rehearsal, and on stage! We offer outstanding programming in acting and musical theatre for children and teenagers of all ages and experience levels. Our company is only eight weeks old, and this is our very first show!!! We are so grateful that you are joining us on this incredible journey, and hope you will continue with us, as students, supporters, and/or audience members for many years to come!
"The Tyrant Turtle King" is a 20-minute mini-musical written by Lory Lazarus & Mehr Mansuri, inspired by the book "Yertle the Turtle" by Dr. Seuss, and featuring performers ages 4-6.
"The Comedic Tragedy of Mr. Moneybags" is a 40-minute mini-musical written by Lory Lazarus & Mehr Mansuri, inspired by the book "The Lorax" by Dr. Seuss, and featuring performers ages 7-10.
Both shows are directed by 3xP Founding Artistic Director, Jill Bolstridge.
Due to the extremely young ages of our performers, we have a few ground rules put in place in order to make our audience a supportive one:
1. No late entry, except during the late seating break in between the two shows. Please be on time! Please note that the BQE is notorious for traffic delays; the R train is slow and often has delays or gets re-routed, and parking in our neighborhood is extremely difficult to find. Please be aware of all of this, and plan your visit ahead of time. (One R train delay could easily cause you to miss the entire show, which is only one hour, soup-to-nuts!) If you miss the show due to these challenges, we will do our best to exchange your tickets for another performance at no additional charge, pending ticket availability.
2. No re-entry, except during the late seating break in between the two shows. Please plan ahead, be on time, have children use our conveniently-located bathrooms before the show, and remain seated throughout the entire performance.
3. Absolutely no children under the age of 3. NO EXCEPTIONS!!!
4. Cell phones and other devices must be silenced.
5. No flash photography.
Please understand that the primary purpose of educational theatre is the experience of the performers: their learning, growth, and development. The audience is there to celebrate and support that learning, growth, and development. These rules are put in place to strengthen that support and celebration. Your cooperation and understanding is greatly appreciated.
Q: "Why can't I just sit on the aisle with my 2-year-old, and if she starts crying, I'll quickly take her outside into the lobby?"
A: "The word 'quickly' is a very subjective word. The 10 seconds it takes you to exit with a crying child into the lobby seems like a blur to you; but to a child on stage who has forgotten his or her line due to the disruption, 10 seconds is an eternity! I have been doing this for 21 years, and I have seen young children get very flustered and even burst into tears over a forgotten line as the result of a screaming baby in the audience. This rule is put in place for the emotional safety of the children on stage, who have been working on this show for 8 weeks and who are ready to celebrate the culmination of their work and learning with their families and friends. It isn't worth disrupting that 5-year-old's experience for a 2-year-old audience member who most likely won't remember the show anyway. Please plan accordingly and make alternate child care arrangements for children under the age of 3. We greatly appreciate your understanding, cooperation, and support."
Q: "Why is there no late seating or re-entry? I can come and go super quietly!"
A: "Again, 'quietly' is a very subjective word. Your re-entry may seem quiet to you, but the noise created by people constantly going in-and-out is a huge disruption, and affects EVERYONE in the room, not just the person entering and exiting. Our performers are very, very young: we are proud to say that we have some of the youngest performers presenting a full musical, anywhere in the world! We want their first experience on stage to be a positive one. Our audience etiquette rules are put in place to protect and support the student performer experience. Please be on time and remain seated during the performance; it's only an hour, after all!"
