Among the worlds most recognizable fungi are morel mushrooms. Morels are highly regarded by chefs and mycophiles worldwide for their earthy aroma and excellent texture. For a few short weeks in spring, these incredible mushrooms appear in the high elevation habitats of the Cascade mountains. Some of the most popular morels to hunt in the Pacific Northwest appear the year after wildfire in enormous numbers. In unburned forests there is a more mysterious group of species known as mountain naturals. Mountain naturals can be very challenging to hunt, as they often hide in plain sight. An intimate knowledge of the plants, trees, and fungi that share this habitat is integral to understanding where and when to find mountain natural morels.
During this foray we will teach you the specifics of natural morel hunting. What habitats to look in, how to properly pick and preserve, and much more. Our goal is to empower you with the knowledge to be able to forage these mushrooms on your own as well as building community amongst mushroom enthusiasts. After the foray we will travel to a beautiful private cabin on the Yakima River to decompress. At the cabin youll be served a three course Asian inspired menu curated by Conscious Collectors Cooperative. The menu will highlight foraged ingredients from the PNW and is fully vegan.
An VIP option will be available to two participants that will include an overnight stay in the property's guest cabin, snacks around the fire, and breakfast the next morning. We look forward to seeing you this spring!
