Air Taxis -- Bruce Wright
As roads and streets become more congested, particularly in large cities, a new form of transportation is emerging, flying air taxis.
Companies like Uber will be the operators of flying air taxies along with automobiles. A rider will call Uber and their cell phone will identify the new rider location, and the rider will tell them the destination. Uber will send the least expensive form of transportation.
Two new technologies permit this to happen, initially with a pilot, but eventually without a pilot. The new technologies include (1) automobile driverless technology being developed by Tesla and others (2) detect and avoid technology that has already been developed for unmanned aircraft.
Morgan Stanley has projected the market of air taxis to be 1 trillion dollars by 2040. Thus, over 100 companies are presently developing flying air taxis. Aerospace engineer Bruce Wright will identify the top eight companies and will present facts about each along with photographs.
The in-service date for large cities is just around the corner in 2023 and 2024. However, cities like San Luis Obispo will wait for experience to be gained in the large cities before introduction in eight to ten years.
That said, next time people travel to a large city they may have a new form of commuting to look forward to!
Bruce Wright is an aerospace engineer, past Program Manager and Chief Operations Officer with almost 50 years of experience in leading the development of a wide variety of aircraft; commercial transports, fighters, reconnaissance, unmanned, and hybrid. More recently he has been a university lecturer at CalPoly in San Luis Obispo and an advisor on aircraft design.

Attendance Policies
Course attendees will present a government-issued ID such as a passport or driver's license and proof of a full vaccination completed at least 14 days prior to the date of a class. Attendees must show a record of a booster dose of vaccine if the second dose of Pfizer or Moderna vaccine (or the single shot from J&J) was taken more than nine months before the day of the class. Attendees who need a reasonable accommodation due to a medical condition or deeply held religious belief must provide proof of a negative Covid-19 PCR test taken within 72 hours of the class date.
All attendees and volunteers are required to wear masks (covering their nose and mouth) in all areas of all venues used by LLCC and throughout the class. Please stay home if you are feeling ill.
