Bridging Cultures & Healing Hearts: The Amanda Bridge Dedication Event and Amanda Transcending Play
Dedication for the new Amanda Trail Suspension Bridge and theater production of the play Amanda Transcending in Yachats Oregon May 21-22, 2022

Oregon State Covid protection requirements will be adhered to in all settings.

The Amanda Bridge commemorates the tragic story of Amanda, a Coos native woman, and has created a heart-felt bridge between the central Oregon coast Indigenous Peoples and the Yachats area community.  The dedication event has been planned in partnership with the City of Yachats, Oregon Parks and Recreation Department, Oregon Coast Visitors Association, View the Future, Polly Plumb Productions and others including the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians, Confederated Tribes of Coos, Lower Umpqua and Siuslaw Indians, Yachats Ladies Club, Yachats Chamber of Commerce, Yachats Visitors Center, and more.  The theme for the dedication is Bridging Cultures & Healing Hearts.

The Dedication will be held at the new Amanda Trail Suspension Bridge overlooking the Amanda Gathering Area just south of Yachats.  Travel to the Gathering Area will be provided by buses from the Yachats Commons or can be accessed by foot via the Amanda Trail.  There is no parking at the site.  Speakers will include representatives from Oregon Parks and Recreation Department, Siuslaw National Forest, Lincoln County Commissioners, the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians, and the Coos, Lower Umpqua and Siuslaw Confederated Tribe. Light refreshments will be provided during the event.  The Amanda Gathering Area requires up and downhill walking over uneven ground and is not considered ADA accessible.  It is in a beautiful forested setting with limited seating available on log benches.

The dedication may also be viewed via a live-stream production to the Multipurpose room at the Yachats Commons.  The Commons located at 441 Highway 101 in Yachats has parking and is ADA accessible.  Seating is limited so registration is required to attend. Light Refreshments will be served.

The play  The play "Amanda Transcending" dramatizes the life of Amanda De-Cuys, a Coos woman who is eventually disowned by her common-law marriage husband, forced to abandon her child, and put on a grueling march towards what is now known as Yachats; and how her story was brought to light.  It will be performed Saturday at 7 pm and repeated Sunday 2 pm in the Multipurpose room of the Yachats Commons.  Admission is free but since space is limited tickets are required.  Two Amanda-themed banners have been donated and will be awarded in a raffle following the Sunday production.  Tickets for the raffle can be obtained from the welcome/registration desk in the Commons.  It is not necessary to be present for the drawing. The banners will be on display in the Multipurpose room.

Prior to the Saturday evening production (5:30-6:45 PM) a reception will be held in the Multipurpose room with refreshments provided by Drift Inn.   Refreshments will be provided for the Sunday play by the Yachats Ladies Club.

There is limited seating at the Commons so although tickets are free for the reception and play they are required to assure a safe number of people.
