Art for LGBTQIA+ Mental Health
Queer performers will come on stage to demonstrate a variety of talents including poetry, dancing, and singing. Many LGBTQIA+ individuals use art as an escape from the additional mental health barriers. According to the Trevor Project, 42% of LGBTQ youth seriously considered attempting suicide in the past year. This event provides a safe space for LGBTQIA+ members to receive information about mental health resources. 48% of LGBTQ youth reported they wanted counseling from a mental health professional but were unable to receive it in the past year (Trevor Project). By educating the community they will be able to receive the help they deserve.
All ticket proceeds are going directly to One Colorado and The Center. The Center provides support groups and safe space activities for the community. This is important due to the exclusion Queer individuals face at school, work, and their own homes. LGBTQ youth who had access to spaces that affirmed their sexual orientation and gender identity reported lower rates of attempting suicide(Trevor Project). One Colorado provides resources essential for making LGBTQIA+ students feel safe within the school environment. This includes their Make Schools Safe plan and the support given to Colorados Gay-Straight Alliance Network.
