The Winter's Tale
William Shakespeare's play The Winter's Tale tells a story of delusions, betrayals, and tragedies which shade into the passage of time that brings hoped-for rebirth and renewal. A sad tale's best for winter: a jealous husband, a wronged wife, an abandoned child give way to a joyful spring of young lovers and a old love's resurrection...though whether real or imagined remains unclear.
This outdoor performance will take place on the lawn of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Corvallis. Seating will be provided, but audience members are welcome to bring lawn chairs, blankets, and snacks. (No alcohol, please!) As per Benton County requirements, masks will be required for audience members. As performers, the acting company is exempt from the mandate while performing, but all have been fully vaccinated.
Ticket reservations are pay-what-you-can, with all proceeds going to benefit the Gavi Vaccine Alliance's efforts to more equitably distribute COVID vaccines. Gavi is co-leading COVAX, the global effort to securing a global response to COVID-19 that is effective and fair, using its unique expertise to help identify and rapidly accelerate development, production and delivery of COVID-19 vaccines so that anyone that needs them, gets them. The Alliance is providing immediate funding to health systems, enabling countries to protect health care workers, perform vital surveillance and training, and purchase diagnostic tests. ABOUT THE VENUE:
The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Corvallis has provided a religious and spiritual home to people from all over the Willamette Valley for over half a century, offering worship services, religious education, action and support groups, and justice work in the community at large. We are also a local venue for the arts, displaying the work of local artists, hosting concerts, and staging dinner theatre.
In 2017, we launched the Justice Theatre Project, a community theatre venture aimed at staging small-scale productions with pay-what-you-will performances supporting social justice causes. Past beneficiaries have included the ACLU and the Corvallis Cold Weather Mens Shelter. The JTPs mission is to create theatre that fosters discussion about the world around us, to make theatre that is completely open and accessible to audience members of any income level, and to use theatre to generate donations for good causes.
