Overview:
"We are not here primarily to create workers, we are here to create thoughtful, questioning, critical, and yes, assertive citizens, ones who understand the people, and only the people, can make important decisions." - Teacher Tom
In our Neoliberal societies, early childhood education is often characterized as a service that is provided to families. Along side this understanding, early childhood is also approached as the site for the application and/or exploration of different pedagogical models (be that Montessori, Waldorf, outdoor preschools, Reggio Emilia). In this presentation we engage and unsettle these commonly shared understandings by proposing early childhood education as an intensely pedagogical and creative space. We do so by drawing on our collaborative work, as an atelierista and pedagogista, in creating inventive and responsive Living Pedagogies. We will share some of the history and stories that we have been weaving for more than a decade through multiple curricular forming(s) and deforming(s) and the co-compositions of what we call pedagogical and artistic situations. Through this presentation we hope to incite the public to think about early childhood education as something more than the assimilation of pedagogical models and to leave speculative possibilities open
Through discussion and activities, the facilitators will provide ample opportunities to incite the public to think about early childhood education as something more than the assimilation of pedagogical models and to leave speculative possibilities open
Join us as we build the foundations of social equity, equality, and justice in our learning environments.
