What Are Saturday Seminars? "Saturday Seminars" are monthly 75-90 minute online workshops that spotlight the impact of sharing children's learning, offered by storytellers from different communities. Designed as lead-up to the Learning Stories Conference https://hilltopcc.com/institute/lsc21/, these monthly workshops from September 2020 and May 2021 are designed to remind us to pay attention to and reflect on the voices of children. These seminars will feature voices, stories, and the lived experiences from educators around the country.
For the entire lineup please visit https://hilltopcc.com/institute/seminars/
Proceeds from this series goes towards the scholarship fund for the 3rd Annual Learning Stories Conference.
Location: Online! You'll receive a registration link the 48 hours before the workshop.
Target Audience: Education professionals (admin, educators, coaches etc.) working with children ages 2-11 Social workers Professional mentors Psychologists Community Based Organizations Headstart / ECEAP Parents and Caregivers Researchers interested in this topic
Overview:
In this session we'll look at several types of Learning Stories and seek to understand how they can deepen our classroom anti-bias practices; support our children in building their self-identity and empathy, empower educators to create responsive curriculum that honors every child, and engage families in understanding the value of play-based learning through the stories of their own children's experiences.
This 75 minute workshop is an opportunity to dive deeper into ways we can support children's learning pathways. Join us as we look at how different stories and writing styles can help build community in the classroom and work towards stronger partnerships with parents.
Why I Should Attend:
Not everything needs to be a story of assessment. A magical moment, anecdote, video or child's voice can be just as engaging and help adults understand, connect, and reflect on what the child is experiencing.
This workshop takes a look at how stories can be a standalone window, mirror, and sliding door into a child's learning as well as how it ultimately be incorporated into a richer learning story.
