Overview:

How do we encourage families to join us in studying children's learning? By weaving Learning Stories into a year-round plan for partnership, we can meaningfully engage families in curriculum planning, documentation, and assessment. Using examples from Hilltop Children's Center in Seattle, WA (on traditional lands of the Duwamish Tribe), we'll discuss effective strategies for authentic collaboration between families and educators.

This 75 minute workshop is an examination of relationships to support children's development of security and self-worth. Join us as we seek to find the answer to the following question: In what ways does Learning Stories influence educator to adult, adult to child, and educator to child relationships?

Why I Should Attend:

Positive relationships are critical to foster healthy development of young children (birth to age 9).  Yet, with more and more testing and scripted curriculum being implemented by policy-makers and admin, young children may be in jeopardy of not experiencing of trusting, caring relationships with adults.

It is essential to examine possible ways to build secure relationships with children and families.

This workshop demonstrates the influence of Learning Stories, a narrative storytelling approach to document childrens learning, and its impact on relationships of young children and adults.
