Project Dream and the American Federation of Teachers 2121 celebrate immigrant students and the recent Supreme Court ruling in their favor with a powerful poetry reading to benefit undocumented students at City College of San Francisco.Well-known Bay Area poets Josiah Luís Alderete, Ananda Esteva, Rev. Dani Gabriel, Tehmina Khan, Ariella Pinedo, Jackie Ramos, Benjamin Bac Sierra will perform. Funds raised will benefit undocumented students through direct aid for basic needs.

Under the COVID-19 relief package, individuals without a Social Security Number were excluded from receiving a stimulus check, and undocumented students were denied emergency grant funding under the Federal CARES Act, as those funds were specified for students eligible for federal financial aid.
Tehmina Khan teaches English and Poetry for the People at CCSF. She strives to learn new words in hybrid languages. Her work has been published in Forum, Written Here, OccuPoetry, and PoetsEleven.
Jackie Ramos is a poet, public health researcher, and educatornative to Franciscos Mission district. For over 10 years, she has led preventative health and educational programs responding to HIV/AIDS, mass incarceration, substance use, housing justice, and the abolishment of the school-to-prison pipeline. Currently, she is an educator at the University of San Francisco, who has developed and leads the Community Empowerment Activists program, which prepares students as social justice warriorsorganizing against systems of oppression for people-powered change.
Jackie Ramos is a poet, public health researcher, and educatornative to Franciscos Mission district. The Rev. Dani Gabriel is a queer/gender fluid poet and writer, the author of The Woman You Write Poems About (Civil Defense Poetry), coauthor of Molotov Mouths (Manic D Press), and author of SAM! (Penny Candy Books. They are the Poet Laureate of El Cerrito, CA. Dani is also a deacon in the Episcopal Diocese of California, serving All Souls Episcopal Parish and St. Albans.
Benjamin Bac Sierra is a professor at City College of San Francisco and a community innovator and speaker throughout the Bay Area. Bens first novel Barrio Bushido was presented a Best of the Bay Award and an International Latino Book Award. His forthcoming novel, Pura Neta, will be published by Pochino Press.
Ananda Esteva was born in Chile and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. A student of the late June Jordan. She is the author of the novel, The Wanderings of Chela Coatlicue and Pisco Sours, a collection of poetry. She is a former member of the Molotov Mouths Outspoken Word Troupe.
Josiah Luís Alderete will tell you he is a full-blooded Pocho Indio who refries his beans and poesia in Spanglish.He was a founding member of the Molotov Mouths Outspoken Word Troupe a collective of politically engaged Bay Area writers, active in the early 2000s. Since then hes performed his work all over the region and was recently featured in the poetry anthology "The City Is Already Speaking.
Ariella Pinedo is a student at City College of San Francisco and a participant in the Poetry for the People Program.
