Spearheading the movement that empowers learners to confront and challenge the current system of injustice, the Learning Stories Conference is a capacity building opportunity to empower and equip adults working with and in partnership with children and families with the tools to transform how we approach our work with young children.

Out of this multi-day intensive, will emerge a more unified community, grounded in commitment, action, and accountability to build resiliency in our future generations, inspire curiosity and reflection and imbed responsiveness and restorative justice into our practices, programs, and society. With a framework on how responsiveness lives, how it can used in various contexts, and how it can strengthen documentation, we can then shift the educational paradigm to bring power to the profession and equitably support the next generation of leaders, thinkers, artists, politicians, and social activists through an anti-racist lens.

Through workshops, keynotes, interactive materials, sensory play, shared documentation / assessments, and site tours to name a few, this conference is meant to be a dialogue focused on ways we can:

1. Confront and challenge the current system of injustice which includes the way we educate children in western civilizations, most notably, the United States

2. Build the capacity of adults working with our youngest citizens to provide a holistic educational experience by looking at children through a strength-based lens, creating curriculum based on their interests that engages them and supports their development.

3. Decenter whiteness from our frameworks, tools, and strategies as it pertains to our work with young children and their families

4. Encourage those along the continuum (from young researchers to policy makers) to collaborate more fully across disciplines than they have traditionally, to change the way we have approached education in the US, the way we view children, and the way we partner with our stakeholders in support of children and families.

5. Supplant our current system with one that places on anti-racism and racial equity at the core of our institutions, pedagogy, and practices.

6. Increase fundamental knowledge of how the usage of pedagogical, developmental and cultural responsiveness can change the trajectory of a child's life

7. Nourish the minds, practices and senses of educators in the field and foster a sense of curiosity of doing things differently.

8. Demonstrate the ways in which Learning Stories can support all of this work and be used as tool for change (or something along those lines since we need to draw a connection to LS somewhere in our goals)

Why I Should Attend:

This experience is a window. A window through which participants can see how learning stories can live in different contexts, and the various ways programs can use them to support other assessment requirements (TSG, Highscope, Eckers, NAYEC etc).

Participants will increase their knowledge and tool kits of how to introduce certain strategies and frameworks into their practice through keynotes and breakout sessions. All workshops will focus on three areas of responsiveness: Cultural, Pedagogical and Developmental.
