Jefferson Hamer
Jefferson Hamer is a songwriter, guitarist, and traditional musician based in Brooklyn, NY. His natural ear for vocal harmonies and powerful, melodic guitar playing make him a sought-after collaborator in both acoustic and electric settings. His influences include classic British folk icons such as Richard Thompson and Bert Jansch, golden-era songwriters like Gordon Lightfoot, American folk, country and bluegrass harmony singers, and traditional Irish music.

This diverse musical background is borne out on many collaborations. With Anais Mitchell, Jefferson wrote and recorded Child Ballads, an album of reimagined English folk songs which  earned a BBC2 Folk Award and was named one of NPRs top-ten Folk releases of the year. His duo with Dublin-born songwriter and traditional musician Eamon OLeary, The Murphy Beds, has toured extensively across the USA and Europe and performed with Glen Hansard, Bonnie Prince Billy, and Sam Amidon. His songwriting and electric guitar work is featured on several LPs with Cambridge, MA roots ensemble Session Americana (he also is credited with engineering and producing their album Great Shakes), and along with fiddler Laura Cortese he recorded an electric guitar-and-fiddle duo album.

His latest collection of original songs, an album called Alameda, released in 2019, features Jeff Picker, John Fatum, Alec Spiegelman, Hannah Read, Sarah Jarosz, and others.

Alameda, the title track on Hamers album, is a rock ballad with crispy guitar licks and geographic lyrics about a wandering worker, who is maybe the author, but maybe not. In the way that it talks about a long search for work, it reminds me of Woody Guthries Columbia River song seriesMoving Day, another song on the CD, is now up there with Guy Clarks L.A. Freeway as one of my favorite songs about moving
-- Robert Sullivan, The New Yorker

Jefferson uses his warm voice and lyrical guitar to tell stories and paint human pictures His guitar has that rippling twang and flow of electric Richard Thompson.
   --Marc Higgins / fatea magazine

A gifted guitarist and singer, Hamer is able to hit close harmonies and weave gorgeous
instrumental lines.
   -- Acoustic Guitar

A spellbinding guitarist and songwriter.
