Quaker Voluntary Service is a national invitational program that supports young people doing a year of spiritual exploration, non-profit service, and community living in 5 cities around the U.S. Bostons local house is in Dorchester.

Alvin Q. Corbett is a historian and researcher of African-American history. Corbett is the son of Civil Rights leader, Fannie Corbett, and a descendant of United States Colored Troops Civil War ancestor, Jack Sherrod. He is the co-founder of the Corbett Sherrod Heritage Foundation (CSHF); a board member of the John Woolman Memorial; former Vice President of the board for the Underground Railroad Museum of Burlington County, NJ; and a visiting scholar with the Rutgers University History Department. Corbett is also a friend of the Peter Mott Underground Railroad Museum and member of several historical societies. Corbett served as Assistant Curator and Digital Archivist for the Mattye Reed African Heritage Center and became one of the first museum-digital archivist in the country.
He holds a bachelors degree from North Carolina A&T State University and a masters from Stevens Institute of Technology. Alvin Corbett is committed to preserving, promoting and perpetuating African-American history and its intersections with religious groups and social movements. He brings history alive by integrating his unique genealogical connections to Americas pivotal social movements. Corbett created the following presentations to engage the public in African-American history:
Corbett is a native of Wilson, North Carolina, who resides in Burlington County, NJ, and attends Mt. Holly Friends Meeting. He and his wife, Delores, co-founder of CSHF, have been married for more than 20 years, and are the proud parents of children, Rebekah (age 15) and Alvin, Jr. (age 17)
