"A Seat at the Table:Dinner With Frederick Douglass" Nov. 23, 24 a musical play by Tami Tyree
"A Seat at the Table: Dinner with Frederick Douglass" is a new play set to music directed and written by Tami Tyree, a singer/ historian who produces and performs in public events of music, theater, workshops, lectures, and the like. Her goal is to bring African-American history to life and highlight new information or perspective; often bringing about information never disclosed or exposing underrepresented facts or people in history. The nucleus of this story is Anna Murray Douglass, wife of the famous abolitionist Frederick Douglass who, in Tami Tyree's imagination, comes back for an evening in the 21st century. Mr. Douglass is the dinner guest of a present day historian who was granted a wish for his presence. Recollections, camaraderie, and even confessions occur as their meeting simmers...but all is not well when first wife Anna Murray Douglass -- the uninvited surprise -- disrupts or changes the course of the evening. The characters and audiences witnessing "A Seat at the Table: Dinner With Frederick Douglass" are in for a whirlwind evening of theater as we are challenged to reinterpret the lives of this historic couple who helped change the lives of black Americans and the country itself. With Johnathan Dewberry, PhD (SAG/AFTRA) as Frederick Douglass, Lil Phillips as Elena Harper-PhD, and Beareather Reddy as Anna Murray Douglass. Book and lyrics by Tami Tyree, musical direction Rudi Mwongozi, Stage Direction Sirlouis Jones, and a chorus of singers from the NYC area.
