Season Opening Musical: "The Fantasticks"

The Fantasticks is a funny and romantic musical about a boy
and girl (Luisa and Matt), and their two fathers who try to
keep them apart. The audience is asked to use their imagination
and follow El Gallo, the narrator, into a world of moonlight
and magic. The boy and the girl fall in love, then grow
apart and realize the truth in El Gallos words that, Without a
hurt, the heart is hollow. This moving tale is punctuated by a
bountiful series of catchy, memorable songs, many of which
have become classics.

The shows original Off-Broadway production ran a total
of 42 years (until 2002) and 17,162 performances, making
it the worlds longest-running musical. The musical was
awarded Tony Honors for Excellence in Theatre in 1991. One
of the key songs, Try to Remember, helped make the show
popular and durable.

The Fantasticks has become a staple of regional and
community theaters since its premiere, with approximately
250 new productions each year. The show was revived off-
Broadway from 2006 to 2017.
Randy Powell is directing The Fantasticks. Randy has
directed several shows at the Jewel Box, including The Fox
on the Fairway, a hit last season, and Calendar Girls from the
2017-2018 season.

The Opening Night Party on September 20 is hosted by Chocmo Chocolatier & Café.

Sunday Matinees 2 p.m., Sept. 22 & 29, Oct. 6, 13 & 20. Tickets are $17 for adults and $15 for seniors/students/military.
