ARTSFEST Maricopa
Announcing ArtsFEST Maricopa
- multi-faceted 2019-2020
Arts Showcase of City talents

Maricopa's creative community energizes our city, enriching the fabric of our lives at every turn and significantly expanding the City's profile on the cultural and expressive edge.
Endorsed and sponsored by both the City of Maricopa's Arts Committee and independent non-profit Maricopa ARTS Council, ArtsFEST Maricopa will feature the City's top-tier Arts organizations in presentations on-stage and up-close and personal this fall and winter in two expanded Saturday-evening showcases at MHS Performing Arts Center:
October 19, 2019 and February 1, 2020.

Starting in late spring, all of the City's premier, long-standing Arts organizations came together to organize ArtsFEST Maricopa.  Major groups participating include Desert Sun Performing Arts dance academy, Maricopa Music Circle chamber orchestra, Maricopa Community Theatre, Copa Shorts Film Fest, MariCopa Chorus, and Visual Artists and Crafters. These varied ensembles will be joined by Music and Visual Art works from various schools' students and by participants from several All-Maricopa Poetry Slams held over the past four years.

ArtsFEST Maricopa aims to present a core sample of all Maricopa's artistic riches in fresh, glorious "re-introduction" to our City --  especially so we all can savor together the demonstrated richness of talent in our hometown, and new residents will gain first-hand experience of how the City's cultural prong has grown, and flourished, over Maricopa's first 16 incorporated years.  The evenings have their presentations grouped around two themes: Arts Without Words, and Arts With Words.

The October 19th showcase is titled "Music and Movement", with main-stage performances featuring Orchestral Music by MMC and Dance by DSPA, plus introductions and commentary by Actors from MCT.  The intermission "Intermezzo" lobby performance will be by a Small Ensemble from a Maricopa school, to be enjoyed as audience members walk about viewing Wall Art and Sculpture by both MHS students and established Artists and Crafters.

February 1st brings the "Stage and Story" showcase.  Main-stage performances will be by Maricopa Community Theatre and Copa Shorts Film Fest.  The intermission "Intermezzo" lobby performance will include Maricopa Chorus and Poetry Slam performances, to be enjoyed as audience members walk about viewing Wall Art and Sculpture by both MHS students and established Artists and Crafters.

Food trucks will be stationed nearby for refreshments throughout the evening.  And for both events, doors will open at 6:00 PM so audience members can view the lobby Visual Art displays at length.

ArtsFEST Maricopa organizers are very appreciative of the support from the City for this glorious showcase of talent, and the ARTS Council certainly, and in particular thank Nathan Ullyot, Director of Community Services for the City, for originally sparking the idea.

October 19, 2019  "Music and Movement"

Maricopa Music Circle is our city's premier chamber orchestra, bringing together local musicians who perform at a high level. Founded in 2009-10 by three experienced performers  originally as a small ensemble, MMC is unique because it performs standard orchestral music and popular favorites entirely without a conductor.  Well known for its intriguing programming, MMC has offered a note of classical provenance for the Citys 10th Anniversary Ceremonies at the new City Hall, partnered with DSPA, MCT, Art on the Veranda, and performed at Ultrastar Ak-Chin, and at the Salsa Festival.

Desert Sun Performing Arts is Maricopa's premier dance studio now in its 14th season, under the direction of Founder and Artistic Director Ceylan Gentilella. Showcase highlights includes some of our soloists and group dances for competition and regular season. DSPA offers dance classes in a variety of styles including, Ballet, Tap Jazz, Lyrical, Contemporary, Pointe, Ballet strength, Acro, Hip Hop and Rising Stars Preschool for ages 2 through 18.

Maricopa Community Theatre was formed in January, 2010 to present quality theatre locally and broaden the scope of theatrical performance in Maricopa. MCT offers performances throughout the calendar year, and has flourished due to the imagination and foresight of Artistic Director Carrie Vargas, and through established partnerships with the City of Maricopa Parks and Recreation Division, DSPA Gems, Inc and Maricopa Music Circle, among others.

Maricopa Visual Artists  (MVA) first came to prominent recognition at the very-popular
Art on the Veranda annual weekends at The Duke Clubhouse.  Both Wall-Art and Craft works have since been featured for years at City Hall, the Library, Maricopa Center for Entrepreneurship, and at various other local events and sites.

February 1, 2020   "Stage and Story"

Maricopa Community Theatre was formed in January 23, 2010 as the baby of Artistic Director, Carrie Vargas.  It stemmed from the desire to direct a local production of The Importance of Being Earnest.  She knew that Maricopa had abundant talent, and that being nestled in its location, there is a distance for the community to travel to see quality theatre. It is from that knowledge and experience, that Maricopa Community Theatre was created. MCT has established partnerships with the City of Maricopa Parks and Recreation Division, DSPA Gems, Inc and Maricopa Music Circle, among others, to broaden the scope of theatrical performance in Maricopa.

Copa Shorts Film Fest is proud to share a few of the most memorable short films from our most recent annual festival, under Founder-Directors Shelley and Roger Gillespie.  Local actors perform a table read of the award-winning screenplay (Mia) from which the CSFF award-winning foreign film, Swept Away, was developed, providing a window in on several steps in the entire film-making process.
