Founders Barrel-Aged Beer Tasting Class
Guest speaker Liam Houck from Founders, who has an unparalleled passion for craft beers, will discuss the history of Founders, the process of barrel-aged brews and the nuances of brewing.
Beer, similar to all wines, is an experience for all of the senses; color, aroma, texture, and last but not least flavor.
Ticket includes a signature cocktail and a charcuterie pairing with each of the five barrel-aged brews. $55 per person
The Lineup:
-Mas Agave 10%; RateBeer: 96
An imperial gose brewed with agave, lime and sea salt and then aged it in tequila barrels for just the right amount of kick. Consider it a party in a bottle. Más Agave!
-Blushing Monk 9.2%; Beer Advocate: 94
When a love of fruit and beer come together, Blushing Monk happens. Brewed with a ridiculous amount of raspberries for tart yet luscious raspberry-jam character and fermented with Belgian yeast for subtle fruit and spice esters. Think of Blushing Monk as Rubaeus older sibling more intense, slightly larger and just a little bit more mature.
-Curmudgeons Better Half 12-13%; RateBeer: 99
Last bottled back in 2012, Curmudgeons Better Half is finally making its way back to allow Founders Brewing Co.s long-standing but now infrequently released Curmudgeon Old Ale to once again feel the tender embrace of oak and sweet maple. Meant to be the sweeter side of the relationship, Curmudgeons Better Half is a harmonious matrimony of deceptively smooth old ale brewed with molasses and time spent aging in bourbon barrels that have previously held maple syrup. This all results in a beautiful counterpart that is sweet, rich and utterly delicious.
- Double Trouble 9.4%; RateBeer: 94
An imperial IPA that was brewed to turn your world upside down. Hops will get you coming and going. Pungent aromatics up front pair with a malt-balanced backbone and a smooth, bitter finish.
-CBS 11.6%; RateBeer: 100
CBS was born when they stumbled upon some bourbon barrels that had previously housed maple syrup. Founders opted to put the same base beer as KBS, an imperialized version of Breakfast Stout, in the maple barrels and, after one taste, knew it was something special. Rich maple syrup, roasted coffee and velvety chocolate meld together in what can only be described as a transcendental drinking experience.
See you there!
