LUCKY ME! (part of FailSafe Festival 2019)

LUCKY ME! is an interactive devised piece that investigates the ideas of self-control and bodily autonomy through the lens of chronic and autoimmune illness and invisible disability. In an effort to exhibit control, creator and type one diabetic, Allie Marotta, attempts to manipulate her own blood sugar in real time on stage while readings from her continuous glucose monitor are projected for the audience to view. Audience members will participate in a number of moments throughout the piece, creating a different experience every time.

Artist Information:

Allie Marotta is a Brooklyn based collaborative theatre maker specializing in immersive, relational, and participatory theatre. She is a recent graduate of Royal Holloway University of London, MA Contemporary Performance Practices. She also holds a double degree in BA Acting, BA Directing from Pace School of Performing Arts. Proud staff writer for No Proscenium and Executive Director of Sitting Shotgun. Fernando Moya Delgado is is an actor, dancer, and choreographer who was born and raised in Guayaquil, Ecuador. He graduated from Pace University with a BFA in Acting for Film & TV and a Dance Minor. Fernando is currently working with Curet Performance Project, Grind Arts Co., Sitting Shotgun, and Homegrown Theater Company. FailSafe Festival is a five-day festival of live performance, taking place in the Times Square/Hell's Kitchen area of New York City. FailSafe Festival provides a space for artists to push beyond what they consider "safe" to present, giving them an opportunity to show work that may not have a home elsewhere.
