Fresh Juice is Mascher's annual Artist in Residence performance of completed works. Sometimes mixed bills of performance work can feel a little jumpy. This year, we decided to create refreshing blends: each participating (AiR) chose a Philly choreographer to invite into the mix. By putting our work in conversation with our chosen guest artist's work, we provoke each other and see what sweetness or bitterness and intensity or subtlety we can squeeze out of these pairings. We have two distinct threads of work: mostly new mostly solos AND The Swing Special.  Details below for each.

/// mostly new mostly solos: About the work ///

"Thomas Cole Continued" by Christina Gesualdi
Solo continuation of bodily research on the Hudson River Painters. Who has their speculative grip on the thunderstorms?

"Levees and Lemmings" by Shizu Homma
Necessities, desires, debility and power

"Hold Me (Like A Hammer)" by Margot Electra Steinberg
A new solo exploring intimacy, care, sensuality, and objectification.

Bailey Roper's solo is about letting go of attachments, self image, reclaiming discomfort, and karaoke.

"Klezmer Studies" by Steve Weintraub and Miryam Coppersmith In this work in progress, we play with ways to move to Yiddish music, traditional and contemporary. Is there an instinctual way to dance Yiddishly?

"Tsror/Pebble" by Miryam Coppersmith
A solo inspired by the Jewish practice of placing stones on a tombstone when visiting a grave.

"Everything is in Progress"
Janna Meiring and Miryam Coppersmith compose themselves, their bodies, and their thoughts on lineage, past, distance, and states of being.
