A Closer Look: Art at the Maier
7/17/19- SALES FOR ALL LECTURE DATES ARE CLOSED DUE TO FULL REGISTRATION.
---------------------- Join us for a lecture series exploring Randolph College's renowned art collection housed at the Maier Museum of Art! Doors will open at 10 a.m. for coffee and tea. Lectures will begin at 10:30 a.m., followed by boxed lunches at Noon.
July 12 | People Who Paint People: Portraits & Portraitists Discover portraits and self-portraits in the Collection as well as portrait artists represented in the collection, such as James Abbott McNeill Whistler.
July 19 | Places & Spaces: Landscapes Learn about a selection of landscapes, primarily paintings, as well as photographs from the Collection.
July 26 | Rare of the rare ones": Stieglitz, O'Keeffe & Early Modernist Art "Rare of the rare ones" is a quote from a letter from Alfred Stieglitz to the College's President at the time, Theodore Jack regarding Georgia O'Keeffe's work "Yellow Cactus." This talk will focus on early modernism in the Collection, largely painters represented by Stieglitz, such as O'Keeffe, Marin, Hartley, Arthur Dove, as well as Stuart Davis and others.
