At the West Virginia Penitentiary Doors open: 2:00 pm. Showtime: 2:30
Spend an afternoon in prison at the Old West Virginia Penitentiary for a tribute show to Johnny Cash and his Outlaw Prison Concerts along with June Carter Cash. The song Folsom Prison Blues recorded in 1955 was an instant hit and became very popular among inmates who wrote to Johnny. His famous live albums that were recorded at Folsom Prison (1968) and San Quentin (1969) are now classics. What is interesting and much less well-known is that those were two of many, many prison concerts Cash played over the course of almost 30 years. His first Prison Concert was at Huntsville State Prison in 1957.
Todays tribute is in a prison that held over 2000 men in the 60s. It will feature several songs by Johnny Cash such as I Walk The Line, and A Boy Named Sue plus duets and accompaniment by his wife June Carter on such songs as Jackson and Ring of Fire.
Show performed by Gray Sartin, Johnny Cash Tribute Artist and his band.
