Chris Dammann's Restroy
On Monday March 25th at 7:00 pm, The Charlottesville Jazz Society and WTJU welcome back former Charlottesville resident Chris Dammann and his Chicago-based group Restroy for a concert at The Bridge, PAI.

Chris Dammann was a familiar presence on Charlottesvilles abundant jazz scent for many years, but moved to Chicago last year to study film scoring. He has composed new music inspired by the hard hitting yet melodic sound of Chicago jazz and the talented musicians he has been working with. His group Restroy has been recording and playing together for several years now. Their music explores the intersection of modern jazz, improvisation and contemporary classical music. Restroy connects, dissects and evolves these traditions to forge a new space for communication and emotional involvement between musicians and listeners. Their most recent recording is simply called Restroy. New Yorks Downtown Music Gallery calls the disc Another raft of hope floating from the Chicago underground scene.

For this tour, the band will include all the personnel on the album. Two keyboard players, rising new music star Mabel Kwan, and Delmark recording artist Paul Gialorenzo, whos 2018 CD Flow received much acclaim. James Davis, a bandleader and composer in his own right, returns on trumpet, and the legendary Chicago drummer Avreeyal Ra (who has performed with Sun Ra, Fontella Bass, Pharoah Sanders, and others) will perform with the band for the first time in Charlottesville. He was awarded the first annual Elastic Arts Achievement Award for his massive contribution to Chicagos vibrant arts scene. Local resident and UVA instructor Kevin Davis will add his own innovative sounds on cello.

Tickets to see Chris Dammann's Restroy on Monday March 25th at The Bridge PAI may be purchased online at Dammann.brownpapertickets.com. General admission is $15, $12 for paid supporters of The Charlottesville Jazz Society, and $10 for all students. Note that seating at The Bridge is limited. For more information visit cvillejazz.org or call (434) 249-6191. Be sure to listen for Chris Dammann's music on WTJU.
