UPside Dance Company presents the premiere of Family Album
...Because every picture tells a story....
Family Album will feature choreography by UPside Dance Company members in collaboration with stand-up Comic Edsel Mac, local musicians including Mr. December Band, and local photographers. Get your tickets for this daring and delightful premier April 5-7th at 6th St Playhouse in the historic Railroad District in Santa Rosa. In this animated tribute to our family dynamics, UPsides charismatic dancers will step into motion, beginning each piece with a snapshot that unravels to reveal the inner workings of family. Through these varied arts, UPside hopes to epitomize those gut wrenching & embarrassingly awkward family moments, as well as the charming imperfections and extraordinary beauty inspired by family togetherness. Come for the good, the bad, ...and the hilarious.

Since 2012, UPside Dance Company, Co-founded by Kate Vazzoler and Tanya Tolmasoff, has become known for the interactive and collaborative element of their work, and for bringing dance to unconventional spaces in Sonoma County. In their original concept of Family Album, UPside continues to turn-up-the-volume with dynamic choreographic pieces: the UPsides quirky and crowd-favorite Family Vacation, the clatter of Family Table, or the touching Family Funeral that will pull at all your heart strings.
Family Album is brought to life by unique collaborators infused into the project. The compelling Comedian, Edsel Mac, will expertly weave the show together bringing us his unique view of the Family Album dance pieces while he graces us with his commentary on ridiculous family photo moments. Local favorite Mr. December Band will grace the stage with their original score, whisking us away with a heart melting banjo pluckin, honest stand up bass, and brass section featuring trouble making trombone & sassy soprano saxophone. Local Photographers will invite the audience to take awkward family photos in the lobby pre-show and at intermission, adding your own familys interactive and memorable element to the whole experience.
Our Dance Collaborators, Christy McNeil Chand, Gianna Davy, and Erin Meyers add in their own ingredients to the family meal. Guest Choreographer Christy McNeil Chand creates a sequin confection of
togetherness in Family Reunion that will remind you of all of the joy of family! Gianna Davy expertly crafts a fun and familiar dance scene to the hopping live tunes of Mr. December Band with Head of the Family. Erin Meyers creates Chosen Family a tribute to our non-related yet often more closeknit family of friends. Guest musician, Leah Joy will accompany the dance piece with her voice of golden silk and masterful harp, guitar, piano playing as well as A special thanks to Kevin Wardell for laying down a conga drum and washboard track also featured in Chosen Family.
