Liberation and The Infinite Energy of Ada Lovelace
Our 5th Season closes with a special double bill which reinforces a hallmark of Opera Ithaca's mission - a commitment to female composers. As the only opera company in the world programming a work written by a woman every season, we are extremely pleased to present Francesca Caccini's Liberation (La Liberazione di Ruggiero), the first opera written by a woman, and the WORLD PREMIERE of The Infinite Energy of Ada Lovelace by Kamala Sankaram. In one evening, audiences can witness where opera has come from since 1625. A starry cast includes baritone Dennis Jesse, mezzo-soprano Courtney Elvira, tenor Kameron Ghanavati, and soprano Tamara Acosta. Stage directors Susannah Berryman and Richard Montgomery will bring these extraordinary works to life uniting with music director Mila Henry, a stalwart contributor to the contemporary opera scene.
The Double Bill is accompanied by strings, harp, theorbo, and piano, conducted by Mila Henry.
A Double Bill of the first and latest operas by women, Liberation + The Infinite Energy of Ada Lovelace, is sponsored by Donald Spector and Stacia E. Zabusky
This program is made possible, in part, with funds from the Decentralization Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature and administered by the Community Arts Partnership of Tompkins County.
