This Concert Series is held on certain Mondays at Morning Star Cafe in beautiful downtown Palominas, AZ. We are located between Sierra Vista and Bisbee on Highway 92 near the banks of our beautiful San Pedro River. We have plenty of parking for your convenience.
The goal of the Concert Series is to provide a quality entertainment experience for visitors and residents of the area.
These concerts will be two hours in length, and the Morning Star Cafe will provide a light buffet meal, including desserts with coffee, tea, or water, at no extra charge. Adult beverages will be available for purchase as well. We will have a social hour before the show starts for you to enjoy a light meal, visit with friends and neighbors, stroll through our unique gift shop, and take in the history of the area that is displayed on the walls throughout the venue.
Cottonwood Crossing is a ensemble of local musicians who will present a beautiful high-desert blend of country, folk, blues, rock, and original music. Jon Messenger, Jeff Sturges, Liz Lopez, and Brenda Pratt look forward to seeing you and presenting their unique blend of musical talents.
BIOS OF COTTONWOOD CROSSING MEMBERS
Jon Messenger
Arizona singer-songwriter Jon Messenger is the product of an eclectic musical background. His music evokes the experience of a journey through the West, a night with the blues, or bluegrass Sunday mornings - the conscience of folk music in the traditions of the troubadours of old. A Cochise County resident since 1991 with family roots on the border, Jon's voice, rich, warm, and evocative of whatever feeling is in the heart of the tune has been described by one listener as the best story-telling voice in contemporary western music. Another fan comments, "Nobody inhabits a song like Jon."
Brenda Pratt
For twenty-eight years, Brenda Pratt and her husband, Matthew, have owned and operated the Morning Star Cafe in beautiful downtown Palominas. Now, with three generations of Brenda's family working the Morning Star Cafe, it has become a place with a strong sense of community and family values. Many of their patrons regard the cafe as their neighborhood kitchen. With the addition of a stage and sound system, the Morning Star offers a unique venue for musicians to share their art with the community. Brenda often contributes to the cafe's music scene, not only with her love of singing, passion for harmony, and keyboard skills, but also with her original songwriting.
Liz Lopez and Jeff Sturges
As songwriters and musicians, Liz Lopez and Jeff Sturges specialize, as the EarthPicks of Cochise County, in researching written accounts of Cochise County historical events, locations, and related personages. They experiment with ways to structure melodies, harmonies, and rhythms to best convey the significance and emotional import of this material. The EarthPicks support their vocals with bass, guitar, and harmonica. Liz is a native of Cochise County. Jeff has lived in Cochise County for over thirty years. Both are retired educators: Liz as a K-8 Arts Specialist, and Jeff as a College English instructor. They make their home in the foothills of the Huachuca Mountains.
