TWO-COLOR BRIOCHE KNITTING / Instructor: Alison Green
Brioche knitting is all the rage! For good reason, as this technique makes a wonderfully squishy fabric which is reversible. In this workshop, we will learn the technique first on some practice swatches before casting on for the lovely Lygia cowl. Two versions of the pattern are available, a short version that hugs the neck, or the long version, which can be double-wrapped for a warm winter accessory. Materials: approximately 260 yards each of two contrasting colors of worsted weight yarn (for long version, or 130 yards each color for short version). Be sure that there is plenty of contrast between the two colors, e.g. one light and one dark color. Size 8 circular needles, 32 length for long version, 16 for short version.
iPHONE-OGRAPHY FOR KNITTERS & MAKERS / Instructor: Gale Zucker
Want to up your photo game for social media or print? This hands-on iPhone-ography workshop, taught by experienced commercial photographer Gale Zucker, begins with an inspiring tips-and-tricks slide presentation of photo techniques aimed at optimizing the look of knits and textiles. Then students will take on some creative photo exercises, making pictures with their phones. The class will conclude with some game-changing iPhone-ography, and the use of simple but powerfully-creative apps to level up your smartphone imagery. Students will learn how to use in-phone editing to make photos that stand out on social media or print to look just the way you want. This class is for all levels, suitable to use of iPhone or Android smartphones. Students should bring their fully-charged phones with ample storage capacity to store new images, the power cord, the password to enable you to download apps, and bring a project or yarn or item to photograph.
MY FIRST LACE CLASS / Instructor: Dylan Uscher
In this class, Dylan teaches the basics of lace knitting patterns. Students will tackle a design that Dylan adopted and translated from a pattern by Swedish design company Yllet, learning the basic lace stitches, how to read lace patterns in words and in charts, how to put in lifelines, and blocking techniques. Students will be provided with the pattern, but should bring 150g of fingering weight yarn in wool, cotton, hemp, or linen (or a blend), size US 10.5 (6.5mm) Straight or Circular Needles (no, that's not a typo), 5 stitch markers, a tapestry needle, and some scrap yarn for lifelines.

INTRO TO DOUBLE-KNITTING / Instructor: Alasdair Post-Quinn
Double-knitting is a unique method of making a fabric with no wrong side, and a built-in reversible colorwork pattern. Much different than the standard intarsia and Fair Isle colorworks, double-knitting is a labor-intensive but wholly worthwhile technique to have in your repertoire. In this workshop, youll learn a 2-color cast-on for double-knitting, and then move into colorwork. By the end of the workshop, you should have a motif swatch and be confident that you can tackle a larger standard pattern. Bring two solid colors (one light, one darker) of plain yarn in the DK to worsted weight range and a pair of straight or circular needles in the proper size. Advanced technique, but knitters need only be comfortable with the long-tail cast-on and basic knit and purl.
SHAWL SHAPES / Instructor: Pam Sluter
Have shawls been on your to-knit list for a while, but youve hesitated to get wrapped up? Or are you shawl-obsessed, and cant get enough? This year, Pam Sluter provides you an opportunity to up your game. In this class, knitters will explore several shawl shapes through a series of mini shawls. Topics covered will include provisional cast on, garter tab, pros and cons of various increases and decreases, yarn choice and more. Bring a variety of yarn weights and needles (~50 yards each will work).
CHARTED PATTERNS FOR KNITS & PURLS / Instructor: Dylan Uscher
The knit and purl stitches are the building blocks of all knitting techniques. They might be basic, but when we combine them we can create visually stunning and intricate patterns. In this class, well be reviewing these stitches and learning how to read charts in knitting patterns using the Gurnsey Wrap pattern from Brooklyn Tweed. Students should purchase and download the Gurnsey Wrap pattern (Worsted Version), and bring the recommended needles, yarn, and stitch markers. Also, please bring a pen and paper or a row counter to help you keep track of your progress.
ABOUT OUR KW TEACHING ARTISTS
Alison Green is a professional knitting teacher, designer, and tech editor who has been working in the hand knitting industry since 2002. She learned to knit for a high school play, and then began teaching when she was a college student. In 2014, Alison joined the Berroco design team. She lives in Providence and loves singing blues and jazz, lounging on the beach, hiking in New Hampshire, and trying new things. Find Alisons designs on Ravelry at ravelry.com/designers/alison-green.
Alasdair Post-Quinn is the author of two books on double-knitting technique and design, entitled Extreme Double-Knitting and Double or Nothing, as well as a handful of standalone patterns. He has been teaching double-knitting around North America since 2005 and is continuing to develop and refine double-knitting techniques to incorporate into new designs. A professional software engineer by day, Alasdair lives in Cambridge, MA with his wife and a small population of freshwater fish.
Gale Zucker is a commercial photographer with a specialty of knitwear fashion and handmade lifestyle. She is co-author of several knitting/craft books, most recently Drop Dead Easy Knits, with Kirsten Kapur & Mary Lou Egan, and Craft Activism and Shear Spirit, both with Joan Tapper. She photographs for knitting books, magazines, designers, ready-to-wear companies, and yarn companies. A lifelong knitter and maker, Gale loves sharing her photography skills and passion with the fiber community. Shes been teaching photography workshops for knitters since 2009. Home base is coastal Connecticut, where she lives with her family. When not behind the camera, Gale can be found on the neighborhood beach swimming or knitting. Gales dream photo shoot is the Weeki Wachee Mermaids modeling shawls.
Pam Sluter is a long-time associate of Slater Mills Trad Arts Studio and the former Community Guilds Studio. Pam is a knitting designer and teacher living in Rhode Island. She loves exploring different techniques, new yarns, and the problem-solving aspects involved in designing. When not playing with yarn, Pam likes hanging out with her family, dogs and chickens, as well as sewing, hiking, county fairs, and avoiding housework. Dylan Uscher is a self-taught knitter and designer from Boston, MA. In his career, he's owned his own design company, Dylanium Knits, worked as a designer and educator for the Third Piece store and yarn company, and has been a prominent knitwear and textiles educator. He has designed and created knit pieces for yarn and fashion companies across the U.S. and Canada, including M.A.C. Cosmetics and Columbia Pictures, and has been faculty at the RISD textiles department for Machine Knitting. Recently, Dylan took a brief of a hiatus from professional knitting and is exploring more creative pursuits in baking, and also stand-up comedy, for which he has recently completed a cross-country schedule of live performances. Expect to be entertained.

I further indicate that I have read, understand, and agree to the "CANCELLATION AND REFUND POLICY" as follows: If I cancel my registration on or before January 4, 2019, I will receive a refund of 80% of registration fees I have paid. If I cancel my registration between January 5 and January 12, 2019, I will receive a 50% refund of fees I have paid. If I cancel after January 12, 2019, or I am a "no show" for the events or classes, I will receive no refund (zero percent) of the fees I have paid.
