FREE! Should I Join that Nonprofit Board?

This information session will provide helpful guidance as you consider nonprofit board service. You will learn about different types of organizations, explore what joining a board really means, and learn how to determine if board service is right for you.

At the end of the session, you will:
-Understand what a nonprofit board of directors is and why organizations need them
-Understand the key roles and responsibilities of a nonprofit board member
-Learn what questions to ask a organization and yourself when considering board service
-Familiarize yourself with different types of organizations in Tompkins County and the region

There will be ample time for Q&A throughout the session.

About the Presenter
Cindy serves as the Director of Leadership Development and Consulting Services for the Human Services Coalition of Tompkins County, an organization that works to enhance the health and human services delivery systems in the region. She also provides independent consulting services with expertise in board development, strategic planning, systems design, and performance improvement.

Cindy has over 20 years of leadership experience, serving in executive positions in health and hospital administration and higher education. She earned her undergraduate degree in health services administration from Ithaca College and her masters degree in public administration from SUNY Brockport. She is a certified facilitator in total quality management, a certified trainer for TeamSTEPPS System for Healthcare, and a graduate of the HERS Management Institute for Women in Higher Education. She currently serves as board president of Unity House of Cayuga County and is involved with many local causes including Relay for Life, Moms for Play, St. Josephs School, and others.
