Locked & Loaded: a story in parts and pieces
"LOCKED & LOADED: a story in parts & pieces" is a new work by The Conciliation Project in association with TheatreLab interrogating gun violence in America. Through a series of community inter-active workshops, dialogues and active community engagement and participation we will facilitate a creative project that explores the varying components that contribute to the astronomical escalation of gun violence in America and the corresponding statistical data associated with it; including mass shootings, police misconduct, homicide, suicide, and accidental deaths. As of June 24, 2017, there have been 29,536 incidents in America involving guns, according to the Gun Violence Archive. Almost 8,000 of these resulted in a loss of life. 1,872 of those were children under the age of 17. GUN VIOLENCE CONTINUES TO BE THE LEADING CAUSE OF DEATH FOR AFRICAN AMERICAN AND LATINO MALES, AGED 15-24 YEARS OLD. These numbers are unacceptable. We hope to shed some light on this issue by weaving an intricate tapestry of stories through artistic innovation and interpretation and give the community an opportunity to SPEAK OUT and STEP UP regarding this phenomenon. We need to address this epidemic, honestly look at the consequences, accountability and responsibility of guns and violence in this country.
