Contemporary Gestalt Therapy Movie & Theory Discussion - Applied Existential Phenomenology
Please join us for a viewing of a *new* series of Contemporary Gestalt Therapy Films with Dr. Bob Resnick on Friday, November 3rd beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Seattle University in Bannon 501.

Dr. Resnick will be presenting an evening of introduction to Contemporary Gestalt therapy, which is an Applied Dialogic Existential Phenomenological therapy.  After an introductory presentation reviewing existentialism, process, and awareness, Dr. Resnick will present both developmental and therapeutic models of the Gestalt Therapy Approach.

To further demonstrate these concepts, there will be screenings of two actual therapy sessions, unedited in order to present a true picture of how a Gestalt therapist works with "real people dealing with real issues and in real time." If you attended in 2015, these will be NEW films of different therapy sessions.

These films are neither a caricature of an insensitive, shaming and cathartic model (an unfortunate and distorted stereotype of U.S. Gestalt Therapy in the earlier years) nor a demonstration of introjected, undifferentiated and formulaic empathy.  Therapy here realistically demonstrates the core struggles human beings have with connecting and separating  the basic human dilemma:  How to be with an other, and maintain a self

The dialogic relationship between therapist and client is the "freshest fish" for both client and therapist to access and track this crucial process.  While the relationship is sometimes figural in the work, it is always a fundamentally important part of the ground.  The engagement of the two phenomenologies allows for difference that in turn, allows for awareness and learning  the stuff of therapy.

This is an opportunity for students to see a leading therapy technique in action through video and dialogue. This presentation welcomes professionals interested in adding the newest Gestalt Therapy techniques to their current knowledge and practice. Earn CEUs at this event.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER:
Bob Resnick, one of a handful of Gestalt Therapists personally trained and certified by Fritz Perls, has been  "under the radar" for almost 50 years.  These new contemporary Gestalt Therapy films demonstrate the power of a non-interpretive, phenomenological and dialogic approach to psychotherapy. Beginning with a 30-minute theory film describing Bob's distillation and integration of Gestalt Therapy over the past 50 years and then followed by two therapy films showing a real therapist working with real people dealing with real issues and in real time. There are no actors and nothing has been edited in or out.   These films come from GATLA'S long running (over 45 years) European Summer Residential Gestalt Therapy Training Programs For Therapists.

Back in the day, Bob published Chicken Soup Is Poison (1967), Gestalt Therapy: Principles, Prisms and Perspectives (1995), The "Recursive Loop"of Shame (1997) and in 2012, "Ten Commandments For Maintaining Connection For Couples" in Ten Commandments for Couples: For Every Aspect of Your Relationship Journey - Zeig, J. and Kulbatski, Tami. He is currently expanding his series of contemporary Gestalt Therapy and Couples Therapy training films with subtitles in eleven languages.

The fee for non-SU students is $5 (free for current SU students but they must register).  The fee for professionals is $10, and $20 for the 2 hour CE.  Seating is limited.

This is a great opportunity to meet and interact with an internationally known expert in Gestalt Therapy.  Please forward this announcement to friends, colleagues and anyone that might be interested in this event.  More detailed directions on how to get to the event room (Bannon 101) will be emailed out the week of the event.
