Elevate Love + Light for Melissa
Friends and Family! It's been a while, but we are ready to celebrate another fundraiser for our beautiful sister, daughter and friend! Please join us and Missy in raising money to help cover medical costs from the devastating event that changed our lives forever. Please read her story and hear about her upcoming big move!
On April 8, 2014, Melissa suffered an extremely serious and rare type of stroke that left her without the ability to move, eat or speak. Her memory and the thinking part of her brain are 100% cognitively intact. This rare condition is known as Locked-in Syndrome.
Then only 42 years old, Melissa was a healthy and vibrant wife and the mother of two children: Colette age 9, and Kingston age 7. She was also an active member of her community she loved yoga and exercise, volunteering at her children's school, working as a partner at Shine Creative in Baltimore, and most of all, being with her husband, Matt, and their family.
Over three years later, Melissa's patience and strength continue to shine through, and we are excited that she soon will be moving out of a rehab center and into a home setting. We know this move will be critically important to her continued recovery and spirit. However, Melissa's outpatient rehabilitation and day-to-day care are about to become more expensive, as medical insurance coverage is limited once she leaves residential rehab. Despite the gains she's made, Melissa will continue to require 24-hour care.
Melissa has come out of a coma, healed from pneumonia, pulled out of Locked-in Syndrome, and worked incredibly hard in rehabilitation. We are kindly asking for help in Melissa's next transition toward recovery. She will never give up and neither will we!
The fundraiser will take on November 10th from 7:30-11:00 PM at the Chevy Chase Village Hall.
Ways to help:
1) Please purchase tickets to this special event and come out to meet and support Missy!!
2) Please consider helping with auction items, examples include: vacation houses and hotel stays, trip packages, sporting event tickets, fitness class gift donations, gift certificates or packages to restaurants, health clubs, spas, salons; gifts of art, music, food, as well as services. Each item will be valuable and extremely appreciated.
