The Ins and Outs of Lawsuits
As any artist knows, creating a work of art, whether it is a painting, a book, a sculpture or a website, is no easy task. While the resulting work is most often rewarding, not all such endeavors have happy endings. Have you spent weeks or months slaving over a project only to be served with a letter accusing you of infringing someone else's work and threatening to sue you? How do you respond to such a letter? Soon after completing a project, have you discovered that someone is now copying the very thing you spent so much time creating? Now what do you do? Do you need an attorney? Why would you decide to sue someone who is copying your work? Are there other ways to stop the infringement? And why would you pick one route over another? And what if you just ignore the whole thingÂ: what happens then?
