Kirk's Coastal Foraging Tour (Private)

Get fishy with former PSMFC fisheries observer, writer, raconteur, tubist, harp blower, monkeyface eel champion, blogger, street performer and fish monger Kirk Lombard on an inter-tidal, low tide walking tour along San Francisco's bayfront shoreline.

Learn the basics of how to "poke pole" for the flavorful monkeyface eel, how to catch rock crabs and throw a "Hawaiian casting net." Discover the best local mollusks, and how to be sure you aren't eating risky ones! Also: where to find stands of edible sea weeds, the advantages of eating your bait, what's in season when, and why you should consider catching your own dinner.

It has been featured in articles in the NY Times, SF Chronicle, SF Bay Guardian, Marin Independent Journal, East Bay Express and many others. Kirk has appeared on NPR, Travel Channel, Food Network, Animal Planet, Oprah Network and Sportsman Network. His show The Curious Adventures of Kirk Lombard," on Whole Foods' website, Dark Rye, was nominated for a James Beard award in 2013. He is now the host of the new Dark Rye TV show on Pivot Network.
