CelloSpeak Artistic Director, Dorothy Amarandos along with Conductor/Arranger, Gary Fitzgerald bring to Washington, DC for the first time 16 Virtuoso Cellists in Concert.
A brilliant program that includes cello solo repertoire as well as chamber and orchestral works arranged for 16 virtuoso cellos.
This Cello Happening will be March 2nd at Washington D.C.'s Church of the Epiphany at 1317 G St. (approximately 1 block west of Metro Center Metro Station. Reduced parking at PMI Parking next door to church - 1325 G St NW).
Ages 18 and under free. College students with ID $15 at the door.
The program will include the heart-felt Bachianas Brasileiras by Villa Lobos with solo voice, the stirring Barber Adagio, the Tchaikovsky Rococo Variations with all of its cello pyrotechnics and much more.
Meet the performers at a reception immediately following the concert.
Cellists are the faculty of the CelloSpeak organization which includes artists gathered from the mid-Atlantic region and beyond.
The CelloSpeak organization was created in 2000 by the Founder and Artistic Director Dorothy Amarandos as a summer workshop for adult cello students yearning for an opportunity to play in ensembles. Her organization has grown from just 13 students in 2001 to over 120 participants who drive and fly from across the country to spend one or two weeks in the workshops to share their love of the cello. Students come from as far north as Alaska and as far south as Jamaica. They span a 50-year range in age and include absolute beginners to cellists who are teachers themselves.
Our Concert Benefactor is Brobst Violin Shop. Other sponsors include Gailes' Violin Shop, Foxes Music, and YellowCelloMusic.
