Freedy Johnston was born in the small town of Kinsley, Kansas, famous for being the exact mid-point between NYC and San Francisco. In the early days his writing mixed literate post-punk with outlaw country and '70s AM radio fare. By time he released his 2nd album, Rolling Stone and Spin were calling him one of America's finest new songwriters and just last year that album, Can You Fly, was included in 1,000 Recordings To Hear Before You Die by music critic Tom Moon. After four albums on Elektra, produced by T Bone Burnett, and a radio hit with "Bad Reputation," Freedy re-emerged in 2010 with one of the best song collections of his career--an album of radio-friendly rockers, heartbreaking twang, even hints of blue-eyed soul and bossa nova. He's a tireless writer, traveler and collaborator, working on songs with partners all over the country, and now entering his third decade as a resolute troubadour. It's always great to spend an evening with Freedy, revisiting old favorites and catching up on the new stuff.
