Phelps Brothers Artist Talk
Join Fontbonne University's Fine Art Gallery for an artist talk with the Phelps brothers on October 15th from 4:30pm - 6:00pm.
This is a free event open to the public that will be held in the Fontbonne Theatre. Due to the University's current COVID-19 protocols, this event will be limited to 100 people. Claim your free ticket now! An opening gallery reception will be held immediately after the artist talk from 6:00pm - 8:00pm.
The Phelps Brothers, Kyle and Kelly, will be exhibiting two bodies of ceramic sculpture. The exhibition will be called Race, Class, and the Blue Collar. This body of work will examine the intersections of race relations in America. The work explores the reaction to poverty, police brutality, classism, racism, gun violence, corrupt politicians, as well as the broken judicial system.
In addition to the race-based work, this exhibition will also explore the demise of the blue-collar working class. From the empty warehouses, idle/shuttered factories, and abandoned mines that once provided life from the smallest towns to the largest cities in the US, the American Dream has faded for many of its believers.
