One hundred and fifty years ago our country's first great songwriter died destitute at the age of thirty-seven with only three pennies in his pocket, but he left behind a rich and enduring legacy: "Beautiful Dreamer," "Oh, Susanna," "Hard Times Come Again No More," "My Old Kentucky Home, Goodnight," "Camptown Races," "The Old Folks at Home," and so many more bedrock songs of American culture.
