Overview:

Nature is a crucial element in a preschoolers learning experience, but there are many barriers to truly getting children outdoors.

This session explores those barriers to access--including gear, equipment, fear/anxiety, socio-cultural context--and seeks to reframe them into manageable challenges that can be overcome.

Participants will see examples from an innovative all-outdoor preschool in Seattle, WA and be challenged to get out of their comfort zone and create a plan to spend a whole day outside.

Participants will walk away from this session with the beginning of a personalized Action Plan for how they can advocate for increased outdoor time for their preschoolers to families, administrators, and co-workers.

Why I Should Attend:

As the nature preschool movement blossoms the world over, many traditional preschools and childcare centers are also embracing the benefits of nature-based early childhood education.

If youre a traditional preschool educator looking to incorporate more nature into your days, youre not alone! If youre in a traditional classroom setting but itching to make meaningful connections with nature, you're also not alone! Teachers who understand the keen differences between teacher-directed learning and true emergent, child-led approaches are better equipped to facilitate meaningful connections in nature.

This workshop will provides ways to infuse nature-based learning into any developmentally appropriate curriculum.
