Thursday, November 14, 7:30pm Cinema Arts Eliran Malka | Drama | Israel | Hebrew | 92 min Tired of being pushed around by the ruling Ashkenazi establishment, a disenfranchised Sephardic father launches an improvised campaign to establish influence in 1980s Israel. In this comic drama, Ya'akov Cohen, is incited to act when his daughter is expelled just for her ethnicity. Ya'akov has no political experience, but he has a belief that he and other Sephardic Jews should be able to hold their heads up high. He and two friends start the first ethnic political group in Jerusalem, with an operation characteristic of who they represent: people working their way up from the bottom. Their underdog activism transformed an entire country. Today, the Shas party is an empire influencing an entire society. Director Eliran Malka is the creator of the hit Israeli TV series Shababnikim.
