Overview:

An identity-based discussion that directly focuses on layers of oppression, this workshop will have adults examine their own identitiesincluding instances in which theyve experienced judgment and biasand closes with the ways in which theyve exhibited bias against others.

By emphasizing intersectionality, which refers to the social, economic and political ways in which identity-based systems of oppression and privilege connect, overlap and influence one another, this workshop equips adults with the skills to:
1. Examine why they believe what they believe
2. Examine why their beliefs might differ from others
3. Better understand how this affects their teaching style
4. Develop an identity that resonates with pedagogical practices that engage and connect with students in a positive and productive way

Why I Should Attend:

Adults are responsible for helping students to have a brave space to navigate how they identify themselves and what intersections they see of themselves. Without this space, students will struggle to embrace, express and advocate for their multiple identities.  By understanding who we are and how our identities affects how we interact with students, only then can we use an intersectional lens to better relate to and affirm all students and to help young people understand the relationship between power and privilege in the world.

Join us as we enhance our professional fulfillment and advancement through the development of a teacher persona that resonates meaningfully with our personal identity
