Disrupting the Cradle to Prison Pipeline: What YOU Can Do

Overview:
Racism affects even babies and toddlers. Learn how to identify indicators of toxic stress in our youngest children of color, how structural racism engenders that stress, and how you can reduce it in your daily interactions.
Why I Should Attend:
The impact of race and racism on health stems largely from differences in access to resources and opportunities that can hurt or enhance health. These racial and ethnic discrimination not only negatively affect the health of babies, infants, and toddlers, but negatively affect their health across lifetimes and generations.
Aimed at reducing health disparities and advancing health equity, this workshop is an exploration of how social conditions disproportionately affect children of color, how we must address the socioeconomic factors that affect health, and how we can ultimately lift barriers of racism to ensure we send our children off to kindergarten, not to their graves.
Join us as we work towards a culture of health, where we ensure everyone has the opportunity to be as healthy as possible.
What's Included:
Included is a tour of the Hearing, Speech & Deaf Center Preschool Classrooms! Self-guided tours are from 6:00pm - 6:20pm.
ASL Interpreters will be available for this workshop courtesy of HSDC. When asked "Do you require an ASL Interpreter for this workshop" please select "Yes."
About the Presenters
Bettie Peralta (she/her), is an endorsed Infant Mental Health Consultant and reflective supervisor in Seattle.
Elise Gooi (she/her), is an Infant/Toddler Coordinator for Child Care Resources (CCR) in Seattle, WA.
This event is FREE for for all eligible City of Seattle Department of Education and Early Learning (DEEL) early learning partners in the Seattle Preschool Program (SPP), the SPP Pathway Program, ECEAP and City of Seattle DEEL Early Learning Staff.
