Hilltop Educator Institute Presents:
Indigenizing Education: A discussion of Early Learning in Native America
Saturday, March 16th, 2019
Facilitated by Miriam Zmiewski-Angelovar

Location: Daybreak Star Indian Cultural Center - 5011 Bernie Whitebear Way, Seattle, WA 98199

Overview:

In this session, we will unpack and discuss what it means to Indigenize educational spaces and materials to better reflect Indigenous people in an authentic way. Participants will hear stories and examples of people and organizations who have cultivated Indigenous education centers and curriculum materials that weave the strong foundations of traditional cultural knowledge with emerging ideas about what it means to be a Native-identified person in our present day. We will also discuss how Daybreak Star Preschool is implementing approaches to curriculum, play materials, environments and food offerings that reflect our multi-tribal, multi-cultural, and multi-racial children and families.
