In town for their residency at SPAC, members of the Philadelphia Orchestra perform an intimate and exquisite program of classical chamber music at Caffe Lena. This performance will feature cellist Yumi Kendall, and violinists Yiying Li & Jeoung-Yin Kim.
Violinist Yiying Li, praised by the Baltimore Sun as a performer of "confidence and brio," joined The Philadelphia Orchestra in January 2014. She has appeared extensively in recitals and concerts and has performed as soloist with the Houston Symphony, Symphony in C (formerly the Haddonfield Symphony), and the Independence Sinfonia of Pennsylvania, among others. She has collaborated in chamber music performances with Roberto Díaz, Marcy Rosen, and Jonathan Biss; she has also performed with the Dolce Suono Ensemble and appeared as a guest artist with Astral Artists. During her time at the Curtis Institute of Music, Ms. Li was part of Curtis on Tours first tour to Asia, which included chamber music performances and master classes in Shanghai, Beijing, and Seoul. An avid orchestral player, she has been a member of the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia and Symphony in C. She has also played with the Boston Symphony at Tanglewood.
Yumi Kendall joined The Philadelphia Orchestra in 2004 as Assistant Principal Cellist, immediately following her graduation from the Curtis Institute of Music. She began studying cello at the age of five; at age 16, Ms. Kendall made her solo debut at the Kennedy Center with the National Symphony Orchestra. A proud Suzuki alumnus, Ms. Kendall founded The Suzuki Alumni Project in 2016, earned a Master of Applied Positive Psychology (MAPP) degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 2017, and serves on the board of Astral Artists. Ms. Kendall has participated in Music from Angel Fire, Marlboro, Kingston Chamber Music Festival, the East Coast Chamber Orchestra, the Smithsonians 21st Century Consort, and the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society.
Violinist Jeoung-Yin Kim is from South Korea and is a member of The Philadelphia Orchestra. She has appeared in some of the worlds most celebrated venues, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Carnegie Hall, and the Library of Congress. Her live performances have been featured on Classical Folk Music Radio of Chicago and Philadelphias WHYY, among others. She was a member of the Harrisburg Symphony, where she served as assistant principal second violin prior to joining The Philadelphia Orchestra. Ms. Kim holds a bachelors degree from the Curtis Institute of Music, and a masters degree from the Juilliard School. Her teachers include Yumi Scott, Hyo Kang and Hirono Oka.
